Knitting

I learned to knit when I was about eight, but never really got the hang of it. In 2005, Paul and I went on holiday to a place with a fabulous yarn shop. I wanted to buy some fabulous wool, just because it was there, and it was fabulous. Paul suggested that perhaps I shouldn't buy any until I'd actually learned to knit. One pair of needles, a squeaky ball of acrylic yarn and a week later, and he was beginning to regret that suggestion.

We live in a small house, padded with wool.

I particularly like chunky yarns, thick-and-thin ones, and multicolours. I love big jumpers, hats and scarves, and I'm just getting the hang of socks. I spent a few years learning increasingly complicated knitting techniques, and eventually realised that I much prefer to make simple, functional garments from beautiful materials. I’ve designed a couple of pieces and written up the patterns for them, but most of my knitting is now done just for myself.

You can buy my knitting patterns, as well as some finished items, in my Etsy store.
